The Historic South Initiative (HSI) believes that housing stability is the bedrock of a strong neighborhood. Our Home Repair Program is designed to provide critical, high-impact exterior home restorations to eligible homeowners within the historic Old South End community of Toledo, Ohio. By stepping in to handle major structural repairs, HSI helps long-time residents protect their home equity, lower their energy costs, and remain safely in the properties they love.
What We Repair
We focus our resources entirely on the exterior envelope of the property. Our goal is to address urgent building code violations and structural issues that threaten the safety and longevity of the home. Our program covers:
Complete Roof Replacements: Removing failing shingles, repairing decking, and installing new, weatherproof roofs to stop active water damage.
Structural Porch Rehabilitation: Rebuilding failing, unsafe front and rear porches from the foundation up to secure home access and improve block visibility.
Exterior Code Stabilization: Correcting critical municipal property violations to protect low-income, disabled, and elderly homeowners from fines.
Program Eligibility & Requirements
To ensure our funds directly assist the neighbors who need it most, applicants must meet the following baseline criteria:
Geography: The property must be located within our active service boundaries in the Old South End of Toledo.
Ownership: You must legally own and occupy the home as your primary residence and be current on your taxes.
Scope: The property must require exterior structural interventions that fall within our defined repair parameters.
